About termbin
termbin.com is a pastebin designed to be used entirely from a terminal. There is no web form for creating pastes: you pipe text to the termbin.com server on port 9999 using netcat, and it replies with a URL. Anyone with that URL can read the text in a browser or fetch it with curl.
The only requirement is netcat (nc, ncat or netcat), which is available for Linux, macOS and Windows. That makes it convenient for sharing command output, log excerpts or configuration files from servers where installing other tools is not practical.
termbin is powered by Fiche, an open source command line pastebin server, so you can also run your own instance.
How to create a paste
Pipe any text to netcat:
echo just testing! | nc termbin.com 9999
cat ~/some_file.txt | nc termbin.com 9999
ls -la | nc termbin.com 9999
Each command prints a URL such as https://termbin.com/abcd. To read a paste back from the terminal:
curl https://termbin.com/abcd
You can add a shell alias for convenience:
echo 'alias tb="nc termbin.com 9999"' >> ~/.bashrc
Things to know
- Public links: anyone with the URL can read a paste. There is no password or encryption, so never send secrets, keys or personal data.
- One week retention: content is deleted automatically after a week.
- Early deletion: within 10 minutes of creating a paste you can remove it from the same IP address with
curl -X POST "https://termbin.com/delete?slug=<paste_id>". Later removals need an email to support. - Logging: the acceptable use policy says IP addresses of all users are logged; no other personal information is collected.
- Content rules: posting unlawful material, including login and password lists, email lists, personal information and copyright infringing material, is prohibited and can lead to a ban.
